• In partnership, the Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission and Alexandria Technical and Community College – Customized Training raised $695 for the Alexandria FIRST Robotics Club Team 3313 Mechatronics through donations made by the 120 attendees at the Small Business Luncheon held on Tuesday, May 19.
• Ted Haar, CLU, LUTCF, FIC, Alexandria, a financial associate with Thrivent Financial, has qualified to attend the Summit Circle conference by providing outstanding financial guidance, solutions and service to members of the organization in 2014. Only 232 of Thrivent Financial’s 2,300 financial representatives qualified for this honor. Haar will be recognized by his peers from across the country at Thrivent Financial’s annual conference in Boston, Massachusetts. Haar has been with Thrivent Financial for 32 years.
• United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties announced that Kris Chisholm will join the organization as the fundraising and special events coordinator, taking the place of Corliss Stark, who will soon retire. In this role, he will provide strategic and collaborative leadership focused on continuing success and growth of the local campaign. Chisholm comes to United Way with a wealth of education and work experience, as well as leadership and customer service skills.
• Alexandria Public Schools recently hired Robert “Bob” Brakke, current assistant principal of Alexandria Area High School (AAHS), as the activities director of AAHS effective July 1. School Board approval is expected at the June 15 regular meeting. Brakke will replace David Hartmann. In his new position, Brakke will plan, direct and supervise co-curricular programs and staff to ensure high quality student activities in grades 9-12.
