American flags waved as the Douglas County Sheriff's Honor Guard marched nearby on Monday, Sept. 11, to acknowledge the 16th anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks that left 2,997 dead.

The flags, one for each person killed in the attacks were placed on 3M property off of Broadway Street in Alexandria. They were set up in two columns, representing the two World Trade Center towers. Three larger flags were placed to represent the towers and the Pentagon that were targeted by terrorists in the attacks.
