This twice-a-week class is aimed at helping participants reach fitness goals. Students should bring their own E Fit, or rent one for $12 for four sessions paid directly to the instructor on first day of class. This class takes place at the Nelson Wellness Center Exercise Room, 1220 Nokomis St. Cost is $139 for 15 Sessions Monday and Wednesday, Jan. 1-Feb. 19, 4-5 p.m. or 5-6 p.m. Or, participants can opt for one-day-a week sessions, $79 for eight sessions on Mondays only or Wednesdays only.
10-week weight loss study group
This 10-week study group is designed to help participants learn the combination of eating and exercise that works best for them. That includes discovering what motivates them and keeps them fired up to get results. A private weigh-in, body measurements and body fat analysis will take place during the first and last weeks of class. The instructor maintains that losing weight can be easy, fun, healthy and easy to follow. This class includes an easy-to-follow menu plan and grocery list, as well as recipe samples and recipe exchange. Cost is $120. Class takes place from 7-8 p.m. on Mondays, Jan. 8-March 12, at Discovery Middle School, Room D200, the Media Center.
Winter film series
This series includes all winter films during January, February and March shown at Grand Arbor Theatre, including foreign films and documentaries. The cost is $30 for six films, which will be shown 4-7 p.m. on six Mondays from January 8 through March 19.
Foreign film: Truman
This Spanish film tells the story of two friends. Julián receives an unexpected visit from his friend Tomás, who lives in Canada. The two men, accompanied by Julián's faithful dog, Truman, will share emotional and surprising moments prompted by Julián's complicated situation. The cost is $5. The film will play 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8 at Grand Arbor Theatre.
Date night practice dancing
Those who have taken a few lessons can brush up on their dance skills during this class. Instructors Jewett and Barbara Benson will review or introduce dance styles and play about 1.5 hours of assorted music and also take requests. They will also answer questions about dance steps. The cost is $35 per couple for four sessions. Classes are offered 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 9, Feb. 6, March 6 and April 10 at the Nelson Wellness Center Exercise Room, 1220 Nokomis St.
Scandinavian folk dancing
Students will learn song dances and round dances of Scandinavia, including the waltz and the polka and circle or round dances, all set to beautiful music. This class is open to all levels of dancers. The cost is $49 per couple. The class will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Jan. 11 - Feb. 1 at Voyager Elementary School.
This one-session class will cover powers of attorney, health care directives, wills, trusts and related advanced planning tools. It will go over an estate's exposure to taxes, long-term nursing care costs, other liabilities or expenses and how to minimize that exposure. Questions are encouraged and individually addressed where possible. This class costs $15. It is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11 at Alexandria Area High School Room The Nest, B103.
