Boys basketball: Arrows' lead slips away in closing minutes
The Ashby boys basketball team stuck with Pelican Rapids at home on Tuesday night but couldn't quite hold onto a lead in the closing minutes of a 55-46 win for the Vikings.
Pelican Rapids (3-5) led 28-23 at the half. The Arrows (1-5) fought back, gaining a 42-40 lead with about four minutes left.
"We missed some key free throws and had a couple costly turnovers and Pelican got back on top quickly," Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick said. "We kept within striking distance, but just couldn't get some shots to fall at the end."
Sophomore forward Scott Johnson led Ashby with 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Christian Norby added nine points and Dakota Ecker eight.
"I thought Jaden Norby made his presence felt tonight with 11 rebounds and five points," Knick said. "It's too bad he had to come to the bench with foul trouble. We needed his physicality out there. Noah Johnson and Rolland Fossell both came in and played good minutes off the bench. I thought Christian Koefod did a nice job being disruptive on defense."
Up next for the Arrows is a home game against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
