Volleyball: Cards take first conference win against Brainerd
The Alexandria Cardinals volleyball team earned their first Central Lakes Conference win over the Brainerd Warriors in four competitive sets Tuesday.
The home win improved Alexandria's overall record to 3-5 and its conference record bumped up to 1-2.
The Cards took the first set, 25-22 with 10 kills. The Cards had a total of 40 kills throughout the match and six aces. Junior Kendra Hardy lead with 15 of those kills and two aces and three blocks on the net.
With momentum from their first set win, the Cards took the second set by a wider margin, 25-19. The Warriors fought hard in the third set and managed to defeat the Cards, 25-18 despite the Cards 10 successful kills in the set. The Cards took the final victory in the fourth, 25-19 with an aggressive 12 kills.
Defensive specialist Anna Doherty lead the Cardinals' defense with 12 of their total 36 digs.
The Cards host the Fergus Falls Otters on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. for another conference game.
