Tennis: Cards fight hard but lose to St. Cloud Tech

The Alexandria girls tennis team hosted the tough St. Cloud Tech team on Tuesday and walked away with only one point.

“The girls fought their hearts out and gave the Tigers a good match,” Cards coach Dave Ronning said. “Although we lost the match 1-6 and many of the scores looked like blowouts, the girls were right there with them.”

The Cards only point of the match was earned by the second doubles team Madison Ressemann and Abby Sater who defeated Lauren Brettigan and Carly Heine in two sets, 6-4 and 6-2. The third doubles team Annie Harding and Kaylee Svee lost two close sets, one in the breaker.

“Tech is a very solid team all through their lineup,” Coach Ronning said. “I felt the girls played them toe-to-toe and made them earn everything they got.”

The Cards travel to Brainerd on Thursday, Sept. 14, to play another Central Lakes Conference opponent at 4:30 pm.
